### Ndlovu Youth Choir at Fringe 2026

A home-grown choir of young talents who have grown up together for over a decade, training and developing into a brilliant ensemble skilled in both singing and dancing.

Their performance has a strong commercial appeal, not only because of their impressive vocal talent and energetic choreography, but also through their own renditions of well-known commercial songs, given a fresh identity with African beats, rhythms and lyrics. It makes the music feel familiar yet completely renewed.

What makes Ndlovu Youth Choir particularly interesting is the way they present a modern interpretation of African culture without losing its spirit and roots. There is a wonderful sense of pride, energy and togetherness in their performance, making it accessible to audiences far beyond Africa.

This is a show with genuine international potential — something that could easily travel on world tours, while also translating into successful music albums and collaborations. 

A vibrant, contemporary expression of African talent that feels both authentic and globally appealing.

### An Echo in the Void — Edinburgh Fringe 2026

Like an episode of Black Mirror, but live on stage. An Echo in the Void takes you into a world where technology, reality and human emotion become increasingly difficult to separate.

A well-written script, brilliantly played by four actors, takes you through a journey from scene to scene, slowly revealing what is really happening. At first, you are left questioning the situation and the characters, but somewhere in the middle, things begin to fall into place and you start to get some clarity.

Just when you think you understand where the story is going, the play takes another turn, with a twist towards the end that makes you look back at what you have just witnessed in a completely different way.

What I enjoyed most is the way the story keeps you engaged without giving everything away too early. It explores ideas of technology, grief, reality and the human desire to escape from painful truths, but does so through an entertaining and accessible piece of theatre.

The four actors work brilliantly together, keeping the tension alive while allowing the story to gradually unfold. It feels cinematic in its storytelling, yet the fact that it is happening live in front of you makes the experience even more immediate.

A clever, contemporary thriller that leaves you questioning where reality ends and the illusion begins — very much Black Mirror territory, but brought to life on stage.

### Shaun Guff: Enuff Is Enuff — Fringe 2026

An energetic, engaging and short performance, with an entertaining script that works quite effectively as comedy theatre. The show cleverly involves volunteers from the audience, bringing them onto the stage and making them part of the performance, which adds an unpredictable and spontaneous element to the experience.

The character of Shaun Guff is larger than life, with plenty of humour, confidence and wit. The interaction between the performer, the audience and the volunteers keeps the show moving and gives it an enjoyable sense of immediacy.

A simple but effective comedy that understands its audience and uses participation well to create plenty of laughs.

### Chad Goes Deep: Chill Towards Enlightenment-Fringe 2026

I can certainly appreciate the effort that Chad puts into Chill Towards Enlightenment, and I understand what he is trying to achieve with his deliberately ridiculous persona and take on wellness, spirituality, self-help and motivational seminars. The concept is inventive, and there is clearly a lot of energy and commitment behind the performance. 

However, sadly, it just wasn’t my cup of tea.

I found much of the humour rather lame and childish, relying heavily on exaggerated stupidity, silly antics and the character of “Chad” rather than sharp, intelligent comedy. I could see that the stupidity is deliberate, but recognising the joke doesn’t necessarily make it funny.

Personally, I prefer my comedy with sharp wit, clever observations, irony and a darker edge — humour that has a bit more bite and makes you think as well as laugh. Here, I felt the satire of wellness culture and self-improvement was rather obvious and stretched out, without enough cleverness or black humour to really hold my attention.

I can also understand why the show works for audiences who enjoy Chad’s particular brand of absurdity. The audience participation and the whole “self-help seminar” format clearly create an atmosphere that some people will find hilarious. But for me, the childish antics became more distracting than amusing.

So, credit where it’s due: Chad clearly gives it his all, the concept is original, and the performance has plenty of energy. It simply isn’t the kind of comedy that makes a few like me laugh.

### YUCK Circus: Naughties at Fringe 2026

YUCK Circus: Naughties is a delightful show to see with friends, especially for a fun weekend out. It’s cheeky, funny and full of good energy from beginning to end.

The talented ladies from Down Under are funny, skilful, humorous and incredibly charming. They make their acts look almost effortless, with each performance bringing plenty of laughs and applause from the audience.

There’s a lovely sense of fun throughout the show, with just the right amount of naughtiness without taking itself too seriously. Every act feels like a crowd-pleaser, and the whole thing is pulled together brilliantly by a wonderful anchor hostess who keeps the energy flowing and the audience entertained.

It’s colourful, cheeky, entertaining and, above all, great fun. A perfect show for a night out with friends when you simply want to sit back, have a laugh and enjoy some seriously talented performers.

### Peregrinations — Fringe 2026

Peregrinations is a powerful and beautifully presented piece of physical theatre that tells its story without using words.

Through masks, puppetry, movement and music, the performers explore migration, displacement, borders and the search for belonging. What makes it work is that it doesn’t simply talk about these issues — it makes you feel them.

The performances are imaginative, expressive and at times very moving, with the masks and puppetry creating some striking visual moments. There is a simplicity to the storytelling, but also a deeper message about courage, loss, identity and what it means to leave one place and try to find a home in another.

A thoughtful, original and visually captivating piece that proves you don’t always need words to tell a powerful human story.

### ALONE — Fringe 2026

ALONE is a gripping and clever sci-fi thriller that takes you into space with two women astronauts fighting to save a dying Earth.

What makes the show work is not just the story, but the relationship between the two women. They are very different personalities, and as the mission begins to fall apart, so does their trust in each other. The tension builds naturally and keeps you wondering what will happen next.

The small spacecraft setting is cleverly created, making you feel that you are right there with them, trapped in the middle of nowhere. The performances are strong, emotional and believable, particularly as the pressure and fear begin to take over.

Behind the thriller is a bigger message about climate change, women in science and how easily important voices can be ignored. But thankfully, the show doesn’t lose sight of the human story.

Tense, atmospheric and thought-provoking, ALONE is a very engaging piece of theatre that keeps you invested right until the end.

### NOT FOR GLORY — Fringe 2026

I’d call NOT FOR GLORY one of the best experimental theatre productions I’ve seen so far at the Fringe.

What makes it stand out is the way it brings together music, dance, comedy, drama and performance art into one energetic production. It takes elements of cultural heritage — including Highland dancing and Irish dancing — and gives them a fresh, modern and unexpected treatment. It feels less like simply presenting traditional dance and more like reinventing it for a contemporary audience.

The production is, above all, great fun. There is plenty of energy, humour and audience engagement, which makes you feel part of the experience rather than simply watching from your seat. The performers also bring a real sense of personality to the show, particularly towards the end when their personal introductions add an endearing and human touch.

I particularly enjoyed the way the production moves between different forms of performance without taking itself too seriously. It has an experimental quality, but it remains accessible and entertaining — and that is not always an easy balance to achieve.

My only wish is that the show had ended the way it started. The opening created such a strong sense of excitement, energy and spectacle that I was hoping for that same explosive feeling to bring the whole production to a close. For me, that would have given it an even stronger ending.

But overall, NOT FOR GLORY is an imaginative, energetic and genuinely enjoyable piece of experimental theatre that celebrates cultural traditions while giving them a contemporary twist.

A must-see at the Fringe.

### 27 Club — Edinburgh Fringe 2026

Always a great hit for a fun weekend night, or even midweek, or any night for that matter, with friends, partying along to good old rock and roll music.

27 Club brings together the music of five legendary artists who all died at the age of 27 — Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, Kurt Cobain and Amy Winehouse.

For me, the best part is simply the music. With a live band and different singers taking on the songs, there is a good variety throughout the show. They bring their own personalities to the performances rather than trying to be exact copies of the original artists.

There is plenty to sing along to, from Nirvana and The Doors to Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin and Amy Winehouse. It is the kind of music that gets the audience tapping their feet, singing along and enjoying the atmosphere.

The show also gives some background to the lives of these musicians and the difficult side of fame, which adds a little more meaning to the music and reminds us that behind the songs were very real people with very complicated lives.

I would perhaps have liked a little more of that raw rock and roll attitude, but once the music gets going, it is easy to get into the mood.

A fun night out with friends, plenty of familiar songs and good live music. If rock and roll is your thing, this is an easy one to add to your Fringe evening.

### The Love Hungry Farmer — Edinburgh Fringe 2026

The Love Hungry Farmer at the Fringe 2026 is pretty good — a gripping comedic narrative from start to finish, carried brilliantly by one outstanding thespian, Seamus O’Rourke.

It’s a one-man monologue that manages to keep you engaged throughout, telling the rather funny, sometimes touching and slightly ridiculous story of a farmer searching for love and companionship. O’Rourke’s performance is what really brings the character to life, moving effortlessly between humour, vulnerability and storytelling with great comic timing.

There’s something wonderfully old-school about the storytelling, but it still feels entertaining and accessible. You find yourself following John Bosco’s misadventures with a mixture of amusement, sympathy and curiosity, wondering where his search for love will take him next.

What impressed me most is how one performer can hold the stage and sustain the audience’s attention for the entire show without the need for an elaborate production. It relies almost entirely on the strength of the writing, the character and the performer — and O’Rourke certainly delivers.

For me, The Love Hungry Farmer is the sort of one-man performance that could easily be developed into a feature film. The character is colourful, the story has plenty of comic situations, and there is enough heart and human vulnerability underneath the humour to make it work beyond the stage.

A charming, funny and engaging piece of Irish storytelling — and a very good showcase for Seamus O’Rourke as a thespian and storyteller.

### Superbowl Salsa — Fringe 2026

Superbowl Salsa is really great fun, especially when you go along with friends. From the moment the music starts, the energy hits you and you’ll find yourself thumping your feet and clapping almost non-stop throughout the show.

The Colombian dancers are incredibly talented, bringing fast, exciting and energetic salsa together with impressive choreography and acrobatic moves. There’s such a wonderful Latin vibe running through the whole performance, with a fantastic mix of music that keeps the audience involved and wanting more.

What I particularly enjoyed is that it doesn’t feel like you’re simply sitting and watching a dance show — you become part of the atmosphere. And by the end, the audience participation takes it one step further, with people even jumping up on stage and joining in! 

A colourful, energetic and feel-good show that is perfect for a fun afternoon or evening out with friends. You’ll leave with a smile, a bit of rhythm in your feet and probably feeling like you should have taken salsa lessons years ago!

### Scaramouche Jones — Edinburgh Fringe 2026

If you’re into old English-style storytelling, delivered with such eloquence and articulation, Scaramouche Jones is for you.

A well-performed monologue, beautifully delivered with an impressive command of language and storytelling. The performance requires a great deal of concentration, both from the actor and the audience, and there is no denying the skill involved in bringing such a lengthy and elaborate narrative to life.

For some, however, it may perhaps sound like all dribble — an awful lot of words, delivered in an old-fashioned theatrical style, which may not necessarily be everyone’s cup of tea.

Having said that, the script itself is potentially a perfect piece for a professional actor’s audition or casting. It gives an actor plenty to work with — character, voice, diction, emotion, storytelling and the opportunity to demonstrate the ability to hold an audience entirely on their own.

It is certainly a performance that showcases the art of traditional theatrical storytelling.

My only advice: don’t see it straight after lunch unless you’d like to have a good siesta! 

### Ten Thousand Hours — Edinburgh Fringe 2026

Seeing Ten Thousand Hours for the second time at the Fringe, and now for the last time this year as it reaches its final performance, it was still nerve-racking to watch.

The acrobatics are impressive, but there is something about seeing these performers being thrown high into the air that makes you hold your breath. One particular moment, seeing one of the female acrobats’ reactions as she hugged her fellow performers after being thrown into the air, really showed just how much trust and courage goes into what they do.

The show combines acrobatics with the beat of live drums and plenty of comedy, which keeps the performance moving and makes it enjoyable from beginning to end.

It is the kind of show that works well for the whole family. Even seeing it for the second time, the routines still made me nervous, especially knowing how much skill, timing and trust are involved in every move.

A fun, energetic and very entertaining Fringe show — and a good one to catch with the family if you get the chance.

### Afrique En Cirque — Edinburgh Fringe 2026

Afrique En Cirque is a fun African delight, and seeing it for the second time, it still managed to amuse me.

This year, the show has moved to a relatively smaller venue compared with last year, but that does not take away from the energy of the performance. In fact, the closer setting gives the audience a good view of the performers and their skills.

The show brings African culture to the stage through music, dance, acrobatics and humour. There is a nice mix of entertainment throughout, with the performers keeping the audience engaged with their energy and playful moments.

A lively production that is easy to enjoy, especially with friends or family.

A good family show and a lovely way to experience a little taste of African culture through performance.

### FLIGHT and COMA — Back-to-Back at the Edinburgh Fringe 2026

An intriguing concept for an interactive and immersive theatre experience, and one I just had to see for myself.

FLIGHT takes the audience through a simulated plane crash, while COMA puts you into the very different experience of an induced coma. Both productions are installed inside port container boxes individually, which works well for the concept and creates a more enclosed and unusual environment.

One of the things I found particularly effective was the use of sound vibrations in the darkness. With very little to see at certain moments, the sound and vibrations become much more noticeable, making you feel more involved in the experience rather than simply watching something happen in front of you.

Whether you enjoy it, however, will probably depend very much on the individual audience member. I can see this working particularly well for Gen Z and teenagers, who may find the interactive element exciting and different.

For some adults, though, it might feel a little less impressive or perhaps even a bit lame. For me, the concept itself is what makes FLIGHT and COMA worth trying. They are certainly different from the usual Fringe theatre experience, and sometimes that is exactly what you want at the Fringe.

### BY A THREAD — Edinburgh Fringe 2026

Another acrobatic show at the Fringe, but BY A THREAD has a different feel to it.

With the use of a rope, the performers combine acrobatics with graceful movements that make the show feel more like dance and performance art.

The rope becomes an important part of the performance, helping the acrobats create different movements, shapes and moments of balance. Rather than just watching a series of acrobatic tricks, you are watching the performers use their bodies and the rope together as part of the choreography.

For me, it is a simple but interesting combination of acrobatics, dance and performance art, showing how a single rope can be used to create movement and tell a story without needing much else on stage.

### Border Bodies — Edinburgh Fringe 2026

Progressive dance, or perhaps more accurately, contemporary dance presented in a dramatic and artistic manner, with an intensity that gradually builds.

The performance starts with small, controlled movements and slowly develops into bigger, more physical sequences, with the dancers eventually jumping and moving across the space with greater force.

There is something compelling about this gradual transformation. The seven dancers bring different styles and influences together, creating a performance that explores movement, connection and separation.

A visually engaging piece of contemporary dance that builds its impact through movement rather than words.
