The Nakedness of Yves Saint Laurent

Anthony Vaccarello, creative director of Yves Saint Lauren, reflects on the provocative power of transparencies from yesterday to today, shaping a collection that arrives ready to cause a stir and not go unnoticed.

“There is nothing more beautiful than a naked body.”

These words, pronounced by Yves Saint Laurent in 1968 at a time marked by the sexual revolution and the second wave of feminism, could perfectly define the collection designed by the house for the upcoming autumn-winter 2024 season.

Anthony Vaccarello, creative director of Yves Saint Laurent, has revived the theme with a collection that invites us to reflect once again on the concept of clothing as protection of the body that wears it, making it invisible.

An exercise in reverse that reminds us how the visible is nothing more than a projection of the invisible, a concept that the designer reduces to its purest essence.

Vaccarello thus gives shape to a collection full of garments that caress the body of an elegant woman.

His collection seeks to capture the essence of a feminine woman with the aura of post-war bourgeois style, embodied in flowing ties and interesting headdresses, as well as in a colour palette that includes ochre, khaki green, brown, and deep blue.

Long, elegant, sophisticated, and, above all, fluid silhouettes are wrapped in oversized cashmere coats and sculpturesque leather jackets.

And although the collection is full of such pieces, the crown jewel is undoubtedly the combination of transparent, close-fitting blouses and skirts, which became one in contact with the skin.

This perfect symbiosis between body and fabric is shown to the world to offer a perfect blend of sensuality, craftsmanship, and sophistication.

Yves Saint Laurent‘s fall-winter 2024 collection is a clear homage to freedom, characterised by a daring and defiant approach with which the maison intends to demonstrate once again why it is a true reference in the world of haute couture.
