Stéphane Rolland: echoes of light and silk

PARIS

Rocío Alcántara

Inspired by the immortal figure of Dalida and the grandeur of the Olympia Theatre, Stéphane Rolland has created an haute couture collection that is sure to dazzle in the coming months.

True elegance belongs not to time, but to the soul. Drawing on this belief, Stéphane Rolland presents a collection in which he seamlessly weaves a subtle dialogue between Mediterranean devotion, existential poetry and architectural volume. The result: creations conceived as authentic works of poetry.

There are places that transcend the four walls that contain them.

Spaces where history does not fade, but grows stronger and endures. The legendary Olympia Theatre in Paris is one such place, and it is precisely there, beneath the pulsating lights of its marquee, that Stéphane Rolland has chosen to unveil his haute couture collection for the coming autumn-winter season to the world.

Rolland has chosen a truly spectacular setting to unveil a collection whose central theme could be none other than Dalida, a magnetic figure born in Cairo to Calabrian parents and shaped by her Parisian destiny.

This is no cold retrospective, but a pure and vivid homage.

Rolland has crafted a collection that perfectly captures the intimate duality so characteristic of the artist: the rift between the invincible star who dominated the stage and the vulnerable woman who read the philosophers, seeking meaning amidst the beauty and harshness of the world.

Stéphane Rolland has opted for a collection brimming with silhouettes conceived as the verses of a poem.

A collection dominated by whites, seen as pages yet to be written. Silk gauze, wool crepe, pleated organza, and satin come together to sculpt ethereal volumes that seem to float between presence and absence.

The dresses seem to breathe; the capes rest on shoulders like protective presences, and harem trousers are paired with macramé coats that pay a silent tribute to the clash between East and West, which shaped the singer’s identity.

Rolland presents a collection in which the interplay of colour and texture is intense. Thus, pristine white gives way to a melancholic depth into which deep red, rich blacks, and flashes of silver burst forth.

However, despite the spectacular nature of the palette used, the house’s true virtuosity is revealed through its textile jewellery.

Far from being used as mere superficial adornments, the inlays of terracotta and grey agates, smoky agates, rose quartz, rock crystals, mother-of-pearl, and silicone marble are woven into the folds as if they were suspended musical notes.

Among all the garments designed by Rolland, the sweater dresses with their sculpted lines, the ivory shantung kimono coats, and the understated black gazar bisht coats embellished with jonquille diamonds are particularly noteworthy.

In a fashion landscape dominated by immediacy and the frenetic consumption of images, Stéphane Rolland’s collection for this autumn-winter stands as a manifesto in favour of permanence.

It reminds us that true modernity does not lie in chasing trends, but in the artisanal ability to move and touch upon the universal.

Just like the echoes that still reverberate off the walls of the Olympia, this collection does not seek to fall out of fashion: it seeks to stand the test of time.
