The elegant passage of time by Chanel
Watches & Wonders 2024 in Geneva was the setting chosen by Chanel for the launch of its new watch collection, its most daring instalment to date.
Watches & Wonders 2024 has once again emerged as the watchmaking event par excellence with a large turnout of both professionals and the general public, eager to discover the new watchmaking innovations of numerous firms seeking to demonstrate that there is no limit to creativity, watchmaking engineering, or materials.
Chanel has chosen this exceptional event to unveil its new Couture O’Clock series of fine jewellery watches, inspired by the aesthetics of Coco Chanel‘s atelier, tailors’ tools and exceptional craftsmanship.
Pins and tailor’s scissors are recurring pieces in this collection, which aims to demonstrate how craftsmanship can be transformed and conceived of as high-end.
Chanel is presenting a host of new watches, including the pink-toned editions, inspired by one of the iconic colours of the brand’s haute couture collections.
These include the X-Ray models of the J12 and Boyfriend, built with pink sapphire cases (and a matching bracelet for the J12). Beige gold and gemstone components are added to the mix.
They are joined by the white ceramic J12 with a beige gold bezel set with pink sapphires to match the hour-markers.
For the more conventional J12, the maison opts for a beige gold case concealing a skeleton mechanism.
We cannot talk about the new exclusive collection signed by Chanel without talking about the J12 Couture Chanel watch series, which includes 33 mm sizes, with a delicate design ideal for women who prefer to opt for a light style, and 38 mm, more suitable for those who prefer to go for a bold and, why not, defiant design in their everyday life.
These models incorporate traditional details that make them unique as well as state-of-the-art watchmaking technology, making their use a truly rational and emotional experience.
Nor can we forget Chanel Première Charms Couture, a model inspired by the contours of the Place Vendôme.
Its case and strap are made of stainless steel or 18-carat gold and are adorned with delicate charms that make the model a collector’s piece of watchmaking.
Despite being designed as a conventional watch, Chanel has given it the form of a true work of luxury art.
In the midst of these watchmaking novelties, the Chanel Première Ruban Couture watch stands out as an indescribable piece that combines the classic with the innovative, giving shape to a truly spectacular creation. Its design is inspired by the most classic tradition of the maison’s tailoring, with a tape-measure pattern on the strap that clearly symbolises the exquisite craftsmanship that the brand has always been known for.
The timepiece is crafted from titanium and 18K yellow gold and features a double-layered black leather strap, a symbol of luxury and sophistication.
And as kings of the innovations presented, necklace watches, a trend whose origins date back to the end of the 19th century.
Among them, the Sautoir Buste Couture, a secret watch hidden in a sewing mannequin.
A brilliant idea by the brand to add a touch of distinction and elegance to any look.
All with the Chanel seal, obviously.
