Neomania #50. Art and the four elements

Greek culture has left us four elements that make up the universe: earth, water, air and fire.

I listen to classical radio to meditate and temper the soul, with music for each element. I have composed a similar symphony for you, instead of music, focusing on art.

The air is the universe of airplanes, inspiration of Italian painters, inventors of Futurism. It was born with Marinetti and several Manifestos, such as “Perspectives of Flight”. Their obsession was to capture speed and futility of life with aerial acrobatics, car and horse racing and wars.

Pierre Bonnard, French impressionist, also painted the air, much more poetic. He reflected in his canvases the colour of feelings and cozy home harmony with exciting nudes.

The water is blue, the fetish colour of Marc Chagall, painter of dreams. This universal Russian captivates us with his lush palette, dreamlike characters and anthropomorphic figures. His exhibition at Mapfre Foundation, Madrid, is brilliant.

Water flows like vaporous dresses of distinguished women by Sargent, an American painter fascinated with fashion. An emblem of elegance, he dazzles us with his exhibition at Boston Museum of Fine Arts.

The earth is the root from which architecture sprouts. Latest winner of Pritzker Prize 2024 is Riken Yamamoto, a Chinese trained in Japan.

FAD Awards, the oldest in Spain and Portugal, reward the best public library in the world, in Barcelona, from SUMA Studio.

The fire of creativity inspires designers, kings of the Sancta Santorum of fashion, protagonists, the eternal classics: Dior, Chanel, Saint Laurent, Louis Vuitton, Pierre Cardin and Leonard Paris.

Returning to the elements, we cannot forget quintessence or ether, the basic component of matter that explains the physical world. Without a doubt, it must be the soul, the key piece of the human being.
