Metallic textures, delicate ceramic armour, architectural overlays, and iridescent shine effects. This is ‘Glacier’, the new collection by Yuima Nakazato.

Glacier. Under this name, Yuima Nakazato presents his haute couture collection for the coming autumn-winter season as a symphony of ice, flesh, and form.

Inspired by a trip to Finland with dancer Evgeny Ganeev, the Japanese conceptual designer invites us to turn our attention to the fundamental role of clothing: to protect the human body from its environment.

This concept permeates a collection that even features large-scale prints of images from the Finnish expedition, embellishing some of the tailored pieces.

Glacier’ showcases garments that resemble translucent armour, creating an incredible paradox between strength and fragility.

This fragility is further emphasised through garments in which wool and metal chains are hand-woven.

The colour palette chosen by Yuima Nakazato is inspired by frozen landscapes, manifested in semi-transparent holographic fabrics.

These materials are meticulously cut into pieces and placed in three-dimensional layers reminiscent of gills, seemingly held together by intricate wire structures, creating a dynamic sense of movement and depth.

In his collection, Yuima Nakazato cuts silhouettes with precise diagonal cuts, joined by exposed functional zippers.

Vest-like panels are anchored onto elongated suits, allowing for free movement, thus weaving a narrative between the utilitarian and the poetic.

Behind the glitter and glacial aesthetics, ‘Glacier’ invites us to meditate on human fragility, exposure, and resistance.

Through his collection, Yuima Nakazato creates a story in which the body encounters, breaks and shatters itself, where fragility becomes sculpture.

Each piece is a true statement that haute couture can become a real act of defence, a strong armour that protects the body from the world around it.
