Neomania #48. Pythagoras the harmony of the cosmos
We start the year by turning our eyes to the birth of Philosophy. Our Western civilisation has its roots in Greek Philosophy that emerged in Athens. Early philosophers, such as Pythagoras and his followers, the Pythagoreans, conceived of the universe as a harmonious cosmos.
They thought that the movement of the celestial spheres produced sublime music, which we cannot hear because we are accustomed to it from birth. His school gave us a vision of the world that could be translated into numbers, with music and harmony.
Something similar is what we wish you for the new year. Mental order and peace of spirit wrapped in beauty.
For this reason, we offer you a range of painters from three different centuries:
William Blake, an English visionary, mystic, writer, painter, draftsman and printmaker. Blake was a prophet who saw painting and literature as two means of expression for a single spiritual mission.
The best-known of the French Impressionists, Claude Monet, delights us with an extraordinary exhibition, from the Musée Marmottan in Paris, now in CentroCentro in Madrid. It is the largest exhibition of him ever seen in Spain.
