The terrifying inspiration of Robert Wun

The Hong Kong artist has continued to pursue an idea he has already hinted at on previous catwalks: his commitment to horror-based fashion that will make you look twice to be sure of what you’re seeing.

Do you dare?

Wun has thrown himself headlong into the world of horror and, for the coming months, has created a collection that borrows elements from his favourite horror films.

So, if you look closely, it won’t take long to spot elements from the legendary Dancing in the Rain, 101 Dalmatians and Maleficent, or even The Matrix itself, through his well-known — and renowned — coat covered in shards of broken glass.

To give shape to this collection, the designer Robert Wun has clearly based himself on the goriest version of the horror genre.

From flowers and plants that try to swallow you from a floor from which you will never manage to escape to monsters with deformed and macabre faces that, for the occasion, wrap their deformed bodies in long dresses full of pleats and asymmetrical lenses.

Anything goes for Wun when it comes to creating pieces that will certainly not go unnoticed in an abstract collection in which this virtuoso of the needle has not renounced his classic fashion codes, to which we are so accustomed.

Crystal blood and glistening viscera cover the bodies of models who seem unaware of the gravity of their wounds.

Likewise, provocative details, impeccable folds, neat dresses and elaborate draping. All of this is punctuated by touches of fetishism with which the feminine silhouettes come to represent a more subversive approach within the glittering, and at times delicate, world of haute couture.

Opting for a more psychological and less visceral horror, Wun has also sought to capture the demons of the subconscious and, inspired by Hayao Miyazaki, to show the balance between good and evil.

Of course, blood cannot be lacking and thus becomes an essential element in all-white looks. For example, a guillotined hat, which resembles a head wound, and a wedding dress covered in blood stains, which the designer masterfully creates using small reddish sparkles.

Robert Wun is an expert in the art of inciting visceral emotions and he more than proves it in a terrifying collection that not only aims to create a visual shock, but also to cause fear and discomfort in those who observe the wearer. Undoubtedly, a true craftsman of horror fashion.
