Neomania #44. Swimming against the current

Following a very challenging couple of years, most people around the world feel 2022 has been a little better. However, uncertainty about short and longer term futures prevails.

In Neomania #44 we are struggling to be optimistic about 2023 although we are not blind. The past year was marked by Covid, international conflicts, economic woes and an increasingly urgent climate emergency.

But humans never lose hope, so we keep swimming against the current and fishing in search for excellence. That’s why we select Matisse in our art section. He was a master of colour and his paintings transmite happiness and harmony and joy.

We are pleased to present the main art fairs this year: the new Art Basel in Paris and the prestigious Venice Biennale. Both were organised in times of lockdown with titanic efforts. Thank God, events like these suggest great degree of improvement compared to “annus horribilis” (2020) when the cultural world froze.

Continuing our exploration through Art movements, we focus on Expressionism. We can now relate to their philosophy of anger and anxiety… just as we feel now.

In architecture we are delighted to discover a new museum. The little brother of the Centre Pompidou in Paris is in the french city of Metz: Musée Pompidou Metz. The author is the famous Japanese architect Sigeru Ban. He was awarded the Pritzker Prize (2014) and the Princesa de Asturias (2022).

Neomania #44 is about the beauty of life but we are not blind to reality. We are indeed concern about world security, economy and the environment. Negativity surrounds us… climate disasters, nuclear weapons and crazy predictions of asteroid impacts and aliens visits.

Nevertheless, we present a cautious optimism for our favourite areas of life. We will never get tired of insisting in showing you the sunny side of the street. Culture is our saviour angel.
