Neomania #42. Optimism wanted

As the song “Gira il mondo gira…” says, the universe also keeps spinning as it expands in an endless cosmic dance… is it infinite?

New galaxies are still discovered beyond the confines known to man. Our tiny planet revolves around the sun. Our big little world is changing at the speed of light.

In a short time we have gone from traveling on donkey or horseback to internet surfing at the click of a button, not only through space, but through time. And we cannot close our eyes to the vertigo of the most recent events.

Echoing the book, “The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse” by the great writer Blasco Ibáñez, we are protagonists of troubled times.

The book, made into a film in 1921 and 1962, narrates the struggle to survive four threats: famine, war, plague and the last horseman… a mysterious character.

That last unknown could be apathy, lack of hope and optimism.

To fight against it, nothing better than combat with large doses of positivity and curiosity for beauty.

That is why, in this issue of Neomania #42, we have concentrated on searching for happy themes, such as the colour explosion of the Fovist movement in France.

Themes of exquisite aesthetics such as Modernism in Vienna.

Themes of intelligent mental games between form and concept, like the works of the great Belgian painter René Magritte.

Topics of investigation and discovery by a pioneer of Abstract Art, the Dutchman Piet Mondrian.

In the fashion sections, we discover the newest creations by the most cutting-edge firms of the moment: Victoria/Tomas, Yohji Yamamoto, Rochas, Alexandre Vauthier and Leonard Paris.

We also admire the latest in shoes, with Christian Louboutin and Roger Vivier.

In the Architecture section, we pay tribute to the African Francis Kéré, winner of the prestigious Pritzker Prize.

Of very poor origin, he has revolutionised the concept of philanthropy and patronage, building for the most vulnerable on earth in his small hometown in Burkina Faso.

Like this winning architect and the author of “The four Horsemen of the Apocalypse”, we are great vitalists and wish to blow a breath of fresh air.

Like them, before wind and tide, we want to finally make the desire to live beat, wild and invincible.
